Lemon is an oval shaped citrus fruit that is extremely tart. Despite its tartness, or because of it, lemons are wildly versatile. Typically, lemons are not consumed raw, but instead are used as ingredients in recipes or as garnishes to beverages and cuisine.
Look for firm lemons that have a glossy, bright yellow color. Avoid lemons that are hard or too spongy. Lemons will keep on the counter at room temperature for a few days but will keep in the refrigerator in plastic bags for up to two weeks.
Add a slice of lemon to a glass of water or juice. The juice of a lemon, as well as the zest, are used often in recipes.
